The St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble as an independent group was founded in 2003. The reason for its foundation was the drive of its members to develop a new form and new capabilities in the realization of artistic ideas, as well as expanding the limits of generally accepted perceptions on performing capabilities of singing groups and choirs. Due to high professionalism of its members, it's now possible for wide audience to enjoy the musical compositions that require considerably larger number of performers. Besides that, the participation of such a talented button accordionist as Alexander Korbakov allowed to considerably enrich and diversify musical palette of the quintet. The group's repertoire encompasses various epochs and styles - from ancient Russian chants and chorals of Western European to modern music. Since one of the tasks of the ensemble is popularization of preeminently Russian music, our program allows to most fully elucidate and introduce to the audience Russian folk songs, secular and ecclesiastic compositions, as well as modern composers and transpositions of popular melodies. In a wide range of time we represent examples of Russian sacred music, starting from ancient songs of the Orthodox Church to works of little-known, but remarkable composers of the XVIII-XX centuries, as well as famous masters - D. Bortnjansky, P. Tchaikovsky, P. Tchesnokov, A. Gretchaninov, S. Rachmaninov, I. Stravinsky and others. We perform different folk songs of lyric. We make our own arrangements of folk songs. Secular songs of Russian classics, such as S. Taneev, P. Tchaikovsky, S Rachmaninov and others represent another side of our creative activity. Apart from our stage performances we also work in sound record studios, where we have already recorded 3 CDs. Our performances in European and American churches of various denominations, universities, colleges, houses for aged and hospitals bring people joy and due to music - the language of soul - unite all of us in Harmony and Love. We would be glad if you take interest in our information. If you have any questions or would like to invite our group for a concert or participation in a church service you are very welcome to contact us any time.
